  1. Lead by working ON versus IN the business.

Make sure you schedule regular time to get away from the daily grind to work on the business and plan for its future.

Review and revise the vision you’ve set for the business. Develop a one-page plan which sets out the vision, key targets, priorities and actions.

Documenting this focuses and reenergises your commitment and provides a documented visual reminder of where you should focus your efforts when you get back to the business.

Do this at least once a year, offsite, where you can block out the interruptions and rise above the minutia to think big picture.

Once it’s set, share your plan with others. Putting it out there makes you accountable and gives your team a sense of direction and responsibility to help you achieve your goals.

  1. Keep fit and healthy.

Running a business is demanding and stressful. Take time out to revitalise the body and mind.

A healthy body equals a healthy mind and is better equipped to deal with stress. Conversely, a stressed out or sluggish demeanour typically comes through in your attitude and interactions. This can set the tone for the energy levels you bring into your business and workplace.

If you want to maintain the momentum, keep fit and healthy and you’ll have the stamina to stay positive and achieve more.

  1. Find a routine that works for you and be disciplined at sticking to it.

Discipline is the key to creating time and space for momentum building activities. Understand your own personal needs, working preferences, habits and times that you are most switched on.

Use this knowledge to your advantage to achieve more. Get organised, plan your week and implement systems that help you become more efficient. If you can’t do this yourself, get a personal assistant or someone to help you.

Being disciplined and sticking to a routine that incorporates time for each of the areas outlined above will help you create, build and maintain momentum.
