Pear body shapeWomen can get the skinny on their bodies on a new US-based website that aims to counteract the “thinspirational” stereotypes of models and celebrities.

The site mybodygallery.com allows users to anonymously post photos of their figures to show others what real women look like. The site is supported by advertising.

Users have uploaded photos of themselves wearing underwear and outfits that show off their figures.

The site asks women to classify their figures as pear, banana, apple or hourglass, and include their height, weight and clothing size.

It allows users to search the shots by body type. Most of the photos conceal the faces, with most shots taken from the neck down.

“Most women have spent so many years looking at themselves in mirrors that we can no longer see what’s really there,” the founders said in a statement.

The site has been praised by Australian eating disorder group The Butterfly Foundation.

As women struggle to make sense of what is “normal” when it comes to body weight and shape, sites such as these are likely to attract a significant amount of traffic. Why not build your own body-inspired site?
