Nokia has said it is “standing on a burning platform” and surrounded by competition, according to a leaked memo obtained by AFP.

Company chief Stephen Elop has said in the memo that the company is facing a “blazing fire” of competition, and that it needs to develop new strategies to survive.

“We too, are standing on a ‘burning platform’, and we must decide how we are going to change our behaviour,” Elop said, but adds that a new strategy will allow the manufacturer to move forward.

“When we share the new strategy on February 11, it will be a huge effort to transform our company,” he said.

While Nokia was once the world’s leader in mobile phones, and still maintains a high market share, it is the nevertheless losing ground in the smartphone market to rivals Google and Apple.
