A British man has travelled around the world relying only on the help from people who use social networking service Twitter.

Paul Smith from Newcastle in the UK attempted to travel from Campbell Island to Stewart Island in New Zealand within 30 days, travelling through The Netherlands, France, Germany and the US on the way.

Smith imposed a rule on himself that dictated he could only accept travel and accommodation offers from other Twitter users, and banned himself from making travel plans more than three days in advance.

He also created a rule that made him leave each different location within 48 hours of arriving.

Smith’s Twitter profile recorded about 1300 updates during the trip, and was followed by approximately 11,000 other Twitter users.
