Web hosting company Webcentral says it has fixed the problem that caused customers to lose email service for more than 24 hours, but customers are still furious with the company.
A company spokesperson says the mail system was back online at about 12:40am today, and the delivery of two days worth of queued mail commenced soon after.
“Due to high load on the system today as our customers retrieve their email, a small percentage of customers may be experiencing connection issues and we expect this issue will be alleviated as the morning progresses,” the spokesperson said.
But customers on technology forum Whirlpool.net.au continue to report problems. Issues reported on the site include continuing interruptions to email delivery and emails sent on Tuesday that are yet to be delivered.
Steve Sherlock, chief of online car rental company Oodles.com.au, says he has noticed a considerable drop in service delivery and reliability since Webcentral was taken over by Melbourne IT in May 2006.
“It seems that they have some chronic problem with email servers, given over the last year we have had similar problems three or four times, with outgoing booking confirmation emails being delayed up to eight hours”.
