Facebook announced yesterday it will be simplifying its privacy settings in the next few days.

The company’s chief privacy officer Chris Kelly in a blog post on Wednesday said previously chosen settings would carry over to the new system.

Kelly said they would be launching a test yesterday on a small portion of Facebook users to measure the effect of the simplified privacy tool and the transitional tool.

The goal is to make sure users understand the privacy policy changes, he said.

The privacy policy shift appears to be an attempt to encourage users to be more open with their information.
