A newly released iPhone app allows users to view which restaurants in NSW have been fined by breaching food safety standards.
The “FoodWatch NSW” app uses the phone’s GPS signal to show which restaurants in your location have been given the thumbs-down by the Government, sourcing the data from the NSW Food Authority sight.
Development studio MoGeneration created the app, with chief executive Keith Ahern telling The Age that the information provided can be a tool for restaurant visitors.
“While I think a lot of restaurants aren’t happy about it [the list], you can see the information and make your own decision,” he said.
“We’re not making any editorial decisions on the data, we’re really just publicising what is freely available. It’s not going to victimise any businesses disproportionately.”
