Links spreading across the internet that offer access to the new Google Wave platform but instead contain malicious software are now infecting computers across the world.
According to Imperva’s regional sales director, Kane Lightowler, hackers are using the recent Google Wave invitations to infect users with software that could be used to gain private data.
“We’ve seen this happening,” he told iTWire. “Google Wave is a very topical search term at the moment.”
Lightowler suggests individuals and computers update their anti-virus and security software, and use browsers such as Firefox and Chrome that warn users of dangerous links.
Additionally, companies with a large web presence should ensure their site does not become a host for a malicious link. “Small or large [sites] are not immune,” Lightowler said.
