YouTube has said it will introduce support for high-resolution videos that appear in the same resolution as top-end flat screen televisions.
Beginning this week, the new feature will see the possibility for videos to be uploaded using a high-definition format called 1080p. Currently the site only supports videos in 720p.
While videos will still have a time limit of just 10 minutes, the maximum file size is likely to increase. A spokesperson said the site will not suffer due to infrastructure problems or costs.
The site also announced that videos already uploaded in the 1080p format will be automatically re-coded, so they appear in the high-definition format without account holders needing to modify any settings.
