A new international survey has found one-fifth of Australian internet users class their connectivity as below average or worse.

According to ServCorp, which compiled a survey using information from over 7,000 respondents, only 11.7% of Australians class their internet service as excellent compared to other countries, with 80% saying they had used the internet in another country.

But about 20.4% of respondents said their internet service is below average or worse – higher than the global average of 17.4%.

Additionally, one in seven Australians said download limits on their services were poor, while about 80% said the Federal Government should invest more in internet infrastructure.

“It is disappointing to see that 20.4% of Australians believe the internet service in this country is below average, bad or terrible,” Marcus Moufarrige, Servcorp’s general manager of South East Asia told ITwire.com.au.

“There is a great opportunity for us as a nation to improve our internet systems. There is no reason why we can’t be leading the way with in the virtual world alongside the USA, Japan and Singapore.”
