The BlackBerry App World has now opened in Australia and New Zealand, just 18 months after Apple launched its industry-changing App Store.
The App World has been available in the US, Britain, Europe and Canada for several months, but until now Australian and New Zealand users have been forced to miss out. And while users won’t have access to the store’s 3,900 apps, a select number are being made available on 2G and 3G wireless networks or Wi-Fi.
Some of the most downloaded apps include Facebook, UberTwitter, MySpace, Navita Translator, Flickr, Bloomberg Mobile, Dictionary.com and BlackBerry Messenger.
However, the store still has a long way to catch up to the rest of the App Market. The Apple App Store still has over 100,00 apps, and the Symbian network reportedly has over 20,000.
