Apple fans have been waiting for the company to introduce a video chat feature for some time, and with the latest operating system update they may finally see their wish granted.

Buried within the code of the iPhone OS 4.0 are references to group chat rooms and chat moderators, according to tech blog 9to5Mac.

The site also states there are references to chat rooms and types of encrypted video features. Files have been found within the update referring to alerts for incoming video chat requests, which sound similar to the iChat Mac application, according to the site.

However, if video chat were to occur it would be likely that Apple would update the iPhone hardware to accommodate a second, front-facing camera. Many believe this is set to occur in the middle of this year, when Apple regularly updates its iPhone line up.
