According to new ComScore data, social networking giants Facebook and YouTube are dominating social media, edging out rivals MySpace and Twitter.

The figures show Facebook traffic made up 41% of all traffic on popular social media destinations in the US during March 2010, above MySpace in second place. Gmail took 15%, with Twitter also taking 8%. The data also points out MySpace held 38% of visits during the same period in 2009, over Facebook’s 33%.

Additionally, the figures show MySpace has remained stagnant for the past year, and is actually losing users to Facebook. It comes as the News Corp-owned site is preparing itself for a relaunch.

Facebook is continuing to gain popularity in the social media space. It has over 400 million users, and recently introduced even more comprehensive security controls in order to appease family groups concerned with users being stalked.
