The Wall Street Journal has reported the HP tablet, which is set to run on Google Android software and challenge the Apple iPad, could be delayed.

The reason behind the delay is due to the company’s decision to focus more on creating a Web-OS based tablet, after the company acquired that operating system from handset manufacturer Palm earlier this year.

However, the company has denied any such delay. “At this time we’re not sharing information on future products, operating systems or roadmaps beyond what we’ve already released,” the company said in a statement.

The reported move comes after various analysts have said they expect HP to bring the WebOS platform into other products, such as handsets and mobile computers.

This was confirmed by HP chief executive Mark Hurd during a conference call, in which he said the company will bring the WebOS into a “variety of form factors, including slate computers and web-connected printers.” While HP hasn’t said when it would release a WebOS tablet, one is expected this year.
