Social networking giant Facebook has released a new mobile app for standard mobile phones, in a separate offering from its existing smartphone apps in order to cover as many operating systems as possible.
Facebook launched the app last week, saying it can work on over 2,500 handsets from Nokia, Sony, LG and several others.
The app was developed in conjunction with Snaptu, which specialises in helping websites take content from their site and then shrink it into a phone-sized application.
Facebook has developed apps for the iOS and Android platforms, but according to Nielsen data only 30% of mobile phone users in the US have a smartphone, prompting the company to develop a new app.
