The release of the iPad 2 means Samsung’s own tablet, the Galaxy, is simply inadequate and needs an upgrade, the company has admitted.
Lee Don-Joo, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, has told Yonhap that “we will have to improve the parts that are inadequate”.
“Apple made it very thin,” he said, referring to the new iPad’s thickness of just 8.8mm, cutting one-third the size from the original version.
“The 10-inch [tablet] was to be priced higher than the seven-inch but we will have to think that over,” Lee added.
So far Samsung has released the only viable competitor for the iPad – others, including the well-reviewed Motorola Xoom and the Research In Motion PlayBook – are yet to ship.
