A new report suggests Apple will not include NFC technology in its upcoming iPhone 5, contrary to previous reports, as the company intends to wait for an industry standard to emerge.
The report seems to negate previous reports that the company would be introducing a new type of electronic payments system.
“The new iPhone will not have NFC. Apple told the operators it was concerned by the lack of a clear standard across the industry,” a source has told The Independent.
However, the report also suggests that Apple is working on its own type of payments infrastructure that would be released to the public next year.
The revelation comes despite smartphones built by rivals, including Google and Nokia, are including NFC technology.
