Former Twitter chief executive Evan Williams has confirmed he is spending less time day-to-day at the company where he was once chief executive and is now seeking other opportunities.

Williams wrote in a blog post that Twitter is “no longer my day job”, and says that he is looking into other areas of entrepreneurship.

“I’m not disappearing from Twitter. I remain on the board of directors and will frequently meet with many folks there to help in any way I can.”

“However, now that Twitter is in capable hands that aren’t mine, it’s time to pick up a whiteboard marker and think fresh. There are other problems/opportunities in the world that need attention.”
Williams took over from Jack Dorsey as chief in 2008, but handed over to Dick Costolo last year. Dorsey is now back at Twitter as executive chairman.
