eBay has taken a majority stake in a Turkish auction website which has 6.4 million registered users, as the PayPal owner looks to lift its marketplaces business.
eBay now owns 93% of GittiGidiyor, after nabbing a minority stake four years ago. Price has not been disclosed.
The deal follows a $US2 billion acquisition of eCommerce service provider GSI Commerce and a $200 million purchase of brands4friends of Germany.
“eBay definitely has the acquisition machine cranked up again, and it’s focused toward marketplaces,” BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis told Reuters.
