Security firm Symantec has acquired management software maker Clearwell Systems for $US390 million, both companies have announced.

Symantec says Clearwell will help the company provide archive and backup services, while Clearwell itself says the merger will help Symantec’s venture into the eDiscovery space.

“Archiving and eDiscovery are two critical elements of information governance,” Clearwell chief executive Aaref Hilaly said in a statement.

“By joining forces and combining the industry’s leading archiving solution with the industry’s leading eDiscovery solution, we will be uniquely positioned to deliver a seamless, integrated information governance workflow, benefitting both Symantec and Clearwell customers.”
