Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a new system of batteries that are lighter and more powerful that the current iterations.

 

According to the MIT News, the researchers have developed a system where a “semi-sold” cell suspended in liquid is able to pump out more power.

Professor of materials science Yet-Ming Chiang was one of the leaders of the researchers, and said its purpose was to “reinvent the rechargeable battery”.

But he then went on to say the battery the team developed is unlike any currently available. “We’ll figure out what can be practically developed today,” Chiang told the publication, “but as better materials come along, we can adapt them to this architecture.”
