Handset manufacturer Nokia has confirmed that it wants to introduce the first Windows Phone-based gadget before the end of the year.
The release of such a device would mark the first gadget to be powered by Microsoft software since the two companies combined their efforts.
“Our primary smartphone strategy is to focus on the Windows phone,” Nokia chief Stephen Elop said at a Singapore trade show, according to AP.
“I have increased confidence that we will launch our first device based on the Windows platform later this year and we will ship our product in volume in 2012.”
Nokia has already released its N9 smartphone, which is based on the MeeGo software, with the company planning to release 10 more Symbian devices over the next year.
