The hacking group LulzSec, which has gained notoriety over the past 50 days for hacking the websites of government agencies, software companies and telecommunications businesses, has said it will stop its hacking streak.
The group of hackers, which has been targeted by law enforcement over the past seven weeks, has also leaked confidential information about police officers from the records of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
“For the past 50 days we’ve been disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just because we could,” LulzSec has said in a statement. “All to selflessly entertain others.”
Some of the groups targeted by LulzSec include the CIA, the FBI, Nintendo, Sony and the United States Senate.
“While we are responsible for everything that The Lulz Boat is, we are not tied to this identity permanently,” LulzSec added. “Behind this jolly visage of rainbows and top hats, we are people.”
