Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt has said the company has signed up “millions” of new users for its Google+ social network.

The comment comes just days after the search giant temporarily halted invitations due to overwhelming demand.

Speaking to reporters, Schmidt said the company is satisfied with the network so far and that it will eventually make Google+ a large part of Google infrastructure.

“The current inclination of the company is to invest heavily … we test stuff and, when it works, we put a lot more emphasis on it. So, Google+ — all the signs are very positive, so now the whole company is ramping up on top of it.”

Schmidt declined to give an exact figure on the membership of Google+.
