Two researchers have announced they have cracked the SSL encryption technology that keeps sites like Facebook and PayPal safe from prying eyes.

Thai Duong and Juliano Rizzo believe they have created a tiny bit of code which can break the SSL and allow eavesdroppers to witness all you privately do on all sorts of sites.

The SSL is the encryption technology that appears as the little lock icon within your browser’s navigation bar. If the code used to break the SSL is revealed to the public, websites will be forced to upgrade their encryption software.

Duong and Rizzo plan to reveal their code at the Ektoparty security conference in Buenos Aires later this week.
