The new iPhone 4S has solved a problem in the previous version of the handset that caused interference with the gadget’s antenna, according to American firm Consumer Reports.
The organisation’s review of the iPhone 4 concluded that it could not recommend the device given its antenna issues, but has given the iPhone 4S a pass.
“In special reception tests of the iPhone 4S that duplicated those we did on the iPhone 4, the newer phone did not display the same reception flaw, which involves a loss of signal strength when you touch a spot on the phone’s lower left side while you’re in an area with a weak signal,” the shopping guide said on its website.
The iPhone 4S still uses the same external antenna system, but engineering changes have apparently fixed the issue. Users would find their calls would drop whenever they placed their hand on a specific part of the antenna.
