Apple is reportedly looking at buying an Israeli company that specialises in flash storage media, a new report from Calcalist has reported.

The report claims that Apple is looking to buy Anobit for between $US400-500 million. The report is notable given Apple rarely buys hardware firms, and usually opts to buy software companies.

If this report proves accurate, it will be the company’s first acquisition in Israel. It would also be the first since Tim Cook has taken over as chief executive.

Anobit makes flash storage for enterprise and mobile industries, using its own memory signal processing technology. It aims to improve the efficiency of flash storage while maintaining a reasonable cost.
