A standalone test version of the open source Calligra Suite office application has been ported to Windows and is now available for download.
However, the developers have warned that at this point the package is strictly for testing purposes, and that it is not ready for deployment in a commercial environment under Windows.
Originally known as KOffice, Calligra was first developed as part of the widely-used KDE environment under Linux. It features a full suite of office applications covering word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, planning, raster and vector image editing.
It joins LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org as an open source alternative to Microsoft Office.
