In another case of social networking helping to bag a criminal, New Zealand police have found a burglar through networking site Facebook.
Queenstown police posted images and video of a young man robbing a local tavern on Facebook and allowed Facebook users to do the detective work.
“The offender was identified after a movie and images of him were displayed on Facebook. He was identified from members of the public viewing him on Facebook and also seeing him on TV after the Facebook images were displayed on the news,” the police station said on its Facebook page.
The police say the 21-year-old man became too hot in the small room holding the safe, and removed a headgear that exposed his full face to the camera.
But the case is not the first instance of using Facebook for police work. In November an Australian restaurant owner used the site to find five young diners who left without paying their bills.
