Glass manufacturer Corning has announced that it has developed a new form of flexible glass, known as “Willow glass”, which will allow for the creation of bendable touchscreen displays in smartphones, eBook readers and tablet devices.
In its announcement, the company says Willow glass will allow device manufacturers to develop curved or flexible touchscreen displays, “wrap” devices in glass, and use high-throughput continuous “roll-to-roll” manufacturing processes.
The company also claims that the glass can withstand higher temperatures than polymer film.
Corning is best known in the industry as the manufacturer of fortified Gorilla glass, which is currently used in HTC, Samsung and Motorola devices.
