Dell to takeover cloud client maker Wyse

Dell has announced the takeover of cloud computing thin-client manufacturer Wyse Technologies.

According to CRN, the deal comes just two weeks after Dell purchased network security appliance vendor SonicWALL. The terms of the Wyse purchase have not been made public at this stage.

Cloud-based thin clients, also known as “desktop virtualisation” or “client virtualisation”, is where most of a users’ desktop, processes, data and applications are hosted from a centralised server rather than an end-user’s computer.

This means that each individual end user only needs a minimal system (a thin client) that can display content from the central server.
