Google has introduced voice and video chat features to its gmail service, in direct competition to eBay’s Skype.
Users can now use instant messaging with other gmail users and view them on a video screen, which can be moved around the desktop.
“The idea was to make it quicker and easier to communicate with other people by whatever means is most convenient. It’s a nice alternative for businesses looking for another way for people to connect,” Google spokesman Jason Freidenfelds told itnews.com.au
Both Mac and PC users will be able to use the application, but must have a webcam to access the video chat feature.
