Amazon’s Kindle smartphones, rumoured to be in development as part of a joint venture with HTC, could be sold to users of its subscription video service, according to reports.

Citing two people familiar with the talks, Bloomberg reports Amazon is keen to increase the number of subscribers for its Amazon Prime service, which includes streaming online video and fast shipping.

Amazon is potentially looking at bundling the phones with subscriptions for sale through carriers.

The news comes just a day after reports surfaced that Amazon and HTC were working together on smartphones, with one of the three devices being worked on by the two companies being advanced in its development.

However, the project has had its timeframes pushed back already and Amazon might yet decide not to go ahead with the launch.

Amazon has also recently claimed that it had no plans to launch a smartphone in 2013, suggesting any launch will have to wait until next year.
