Speculation is mounting that Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility is planning to announce a new smartphone, based on an Intel processor, on September 18.
Mobot reports that Google/Motorola are publicising a joint Intel and Motorola product launch on September 18 for a new product named the “Motorola Edge”.
However, at this stage the companies aren’t providing any details beyond the hype surrounding the joint announcement.
Nonetheless, Intel has been keen to gain ground in the smartphone and tablet processor market, which has historically been dominated by ARM.
This has led the company to announce an Android-compatible smartphone in April, while in May the company made a concerted effort to persuade Apple to switch to its processors.
