PC-maker Dell has made its first three Windows 8-based PCs available for pre-order in the US, ahead of the launch of Windows 8 on October 26.

According to Tom’s Hardware, the first of the three devices is a convertible laptop/tablet called the XPS-12 that features an Intel Core i5-3317U processor, an Intel 4000 HD graphics chip, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 128GB SSD card, with a starting price of $US1,199.99.

The key feature of the Dell XPS-12 is that, when it’s opened as a laptop, the screen can spin within its bevel to either face forwards or backwards, allowing it to be closed as a tablet.

The second device is the XPS One 27, an all-in-one PC with a touch-screen that features an Intel Core i5 CPU with integrated high definition graphics, 6GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive, starting at $US1,599.99.

The third PC is the all-in-one Inspiron One 23 with a Pentium G645 CPU and integrated high definition graphics, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive, for $US799.99.
