New software from an India-based company can instruct a stolen mobile phone to send word of its location back to the owner.
The “Secure Mobile” program was developed for Maverick Mobile by Sujit Jain, who became frustrated after losing his mobile phone twice. The program recently won special attention at a DEMO gathering in California of 72 start-ups developing mobile phone software.
“That gave birth to a product which will not just secure your device but the data as well in case of loss or theft,” he told The Age.
The program sends the owner copies of phone numbers dialed, retrieves contact lists and allows the owner to disable the stolen phone remotely or make it play a loud, blaring alarm, even if the battery is changed.
