To be eligible for the 2013 SmartCompany Web Awards, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be Australian based (not a subsidiary of a multinational).
  • Entries submitted by no later than Friday 15th November.
  • Traffic is not a criterion but will be taken into consideration.
  • Agencies are welcome to enter the awards on behalf of their clients*.
  • To be considered an SME your annual revenue must not exceed 500 million.

*Agencies please note that when entering on behalf of a client, the client will be awarded if successful, not the agency. Any formal recognition for the agency will be at editorial discretion.

Category specific guidelines

Best Small Company Website (Under 20 employees)

This award recognises the small company with the best company website. To qualify, the company must have less than 20 employees.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Elements that have been used to build your website
  • Best tip for starting a web-based business
  • Website construction

Best Large Company Website (More than 20 employees)

This award recognises the large company that has best company website. To be considered a large company but not exceed the SME criteria, your annual revenue must not exceed 500 million.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Elements that have been used to build your website
  • Best tip for starting a web-based business
  • Website construction

Best Search Strategy

This award recognises the company with the best search engine optimisation strategy.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Search strategy
  • Key success measures
  • Strategy advice for other businesses

Best Design

This award recognises the best design of a website.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Website target audience and purpose
  • Philosophy behind design
  • Key design elements
  • Design tips for other businesses

Best Blog

This award recognises the best blog.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Blog target audience and purpose
  • Best tip to help businesses develop a better blog

Best Use of Social Media

This award recognises the company with the Best Use of Social Media.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Social media strategy
  • Social media advice for other websites
  • ROI

Best eCommerce Website

This award recognises the company with the Best eCommerce Website.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Website product or service offering and your target customers
  • Percentage of revenue earned directly through the website
  • Key strategies for customer generation and retention
  • Customer service strategy

Best Mobile Website

This award recognises the company with the Best Mobile Website.

Areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mobile strategy (including apps, mobile sites, SMS, QR codes, directories, mCommerce, location marketing)
  • Marketing and development for other businesses considering mobile as part of their digital strategy
